THE PALMETTO DANCE BAND
The Palmetto Dance Band was founded in 1990 by front man Robert Pratt, and for the first few years we were known as "the Palmetto Bugs". We started out playing for a few functions at Summerville Presbyterian Church. Eventually we grew into bigger gigs at local parties and clubs, and established a local following. Several years ago, we changed our name to "the Palmetto Dance Band", partially to avoid a name conflict with another band, but mainly because we wanted a name that better represented our music. Since then, we've played events, weddings, and parties locally at Charleston, Kiawah Island, Folly Beach, Summerville and locations as far away as Greenville, SC and Savannah, Georgia.
Band Members:
Robert Pratt- The lead singer and front man for the Palmetto Dance Band, Robert is a graduate of the University of South Carolina and a very successful commercial realtor. Robert has played in a variety of rock and roll bands since he was 13, handling bass, keyboards, vocals, and guitar. Robert plays a wide array of vintage Fender guitars (he's an avid collector) through Music Man or Fender Twin Reverb amps.
Kirk Holder- Drummer and vocalist for the Palmetto Dance Band, Kirk is a graduate of the University of South Carolina and a sales representative with a major welding equipment supplier in Columbia, SC. Kirk played drums in marching bands in high school and at USC. Kirk's weapons of choice are Tama drums, Zildjian cymbals, and Vic Firth drum sticks.
Kirk Singletary- Lead guitarist for the Palmetto Dance Band, Kirk is skilled in Computer Aided Design and Geographic Information System work. An accomplished musician, Kirk has played in bands almost continuously since junior high school. Kirk plays an Eric Johnson signature Fender Stratocaster through a plethora of effects and a Mesa Boogie amp.
Marianne Odom- Vocalist and percussionist for the Palmetto Dance Band, Marianne also operates the stage lights and special effects, and generally keeps the guys "in line". Marianne is a graduate of Peace College and East Carolina University, an Assistant Media Specialist at Beech Hill Elementary School, and wife of bassist Hugh Odom. Marianne has been singing in public since she was 5 years old.
Hugh Odom- Bassist and "sound man" for the Palmetto Dance Band, Hugh is a graduate of Clemson University and is a registered professional Mechanical Engineer in South Carolina. His technical skills come in handy for such things as setting up PA systems and building webpages. Hugh plays a Wal Mark II bass through Gallien-Krueger or Line 6 amps.
