MICHAEL ANDREW AND SWINGERHEAD
Michael Andrew has always loved swing music. His favorite performers are Frank Sinatra, Bobby Darin and other popular song stylists from generations before his time. After graduating from the University of Wisconsin in 1987, with a Bachelor of Arts degree and a Major in theater, Michael developed an act for Carnival Cruise Lines and became one of their top entertainers.
In 1990, he formed "The Michael Andrew Orchestras" with the goal of providing timeless music in the style of the big bands of the forties and in the tradition of popular singers like Tony Bennett and Frank Sinatra. He has performed with his orchestras in some of the most exclusive venues in America.
In 1993, the world famous Rainbow Room in New York City invited Michael to become their headlining singer and band leader. His contract was extended four times and in 1994, WQEW, New York's nostalgic radio station ran a weekly series of live broadcasts starring Michael Andrew and the Rainbow Room Orchestra. Andrew performed 5 to 6 nights a week at the Rainbow Room from May of 1993 through June of 1995.
In the summer of 96 audiences and critics raved about his "hi-fi, sci-fi" musical comedy, "Mickey Swingerhead & The Earthgirls", which was produced in Orlando, Florida. Also in 96, Michael released the appropriately entitled CD, "I Guess I'm a Little Out of Date", a collection of classic swingin' standards including "You'd Be So Nice to Come Home to" and "Nancy with the Laughin' Face" plus six original songs written by Michael Andrew.
1997 had Michael showcasing, 'The Michael Andrew Retro-Swing wing Band," with river 300 special appearances around the country at high end corporate events, music festivals, colleges, and nightclubs.
In 1998, in light of pop-culture's rising interest towards the 'cocktail culture' and trendy 'lounge lifestyle', Andrew was inspired to create his dynamic band known as Swingerhead. The band toured around the nation supporting their successful debut CD. They quickly became a favorite at venues such as the Derby in Hollywood. Liquid in Chicago, Swing 1000 in Charlotte, the Hard Rock Hotel in Las Vegas, Atlantic Dance Hall in Walt Disney World, Window on the World in New York City, and The Coconut Club in Merv Griffin's Beverly Hilton.
On New Years Eve, 1999. Michael Andrew and his band played at The Coconut Club in Beverly Hills. Shortly after that performance, Merv Griffin invited Michael to perform at The Coconut Club on a steady basis. Starling in January of 2000, Michael put together his Los Angeles based hand which has come to be known as "The Coconut Club Orchestra".
Back on the East coast, in October of 2000, Swingerhead was awarded the Best Band award in the category of "Swing, Loung, and Jazz" for the 3rd year in a row. Michael Andrew and his hand performed with the Orlando Philharmonic Orchestra to a sold out crowd and received several standing ovations.
Michael Andrew and his Orlando based band, Swingerhead currently play at several night clubs and for special events and festivals throughout the east coast of the U.S.
Michael Andrew and his Los Angeles based hand, 'The Coconut Club Orchestra", play at The Coconut Club in Merv Griffin's Beverly Hilton every Saturday night.
